Our Mission
At GiGi’s Playhouse Tampa, we are driven by the passion and dedication of our volunteers. Since 2003, our programs have remained free, thanks to the invaluable support of parents, clinicians, advocates, and community members who believe in our mission. As a volunteer-driven organization, your expertise and commitment are the keystones that help us offer vibrant, educational, and enjoyable experiences to families. Together we are changing the way the world views Down syndrome.
Your Journey with Us
After you sign up, we’ll guide you through every step. You'll receive a confirmation email leading you to an upcoming volunteer orientation. Here, you’ll learn about who we are, our mission, and how you can contribute. The on-boarding process, tailored to each volunteer role, will follow. We also conduct background checks at no cost to you. We can't wait to welcome you to our team! Our volunteers often find their experience to be life changing.
Volunteer Roles and Opportunities
Program Involvement
- Program Leaders
- Role: Facilitate activities, connect with families
- Skills: Preferably with education/training in therapy, social work, education, or arts
- Commitment: Varies by program
- Program Volunteers
- Role: Assist program leaders
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of Down syndrome (provided at orientation)
- Commitment: Depends on program size and type
- Literacy and Math Tutors
- Role: Tutor in reading or math
- Commitment: 1 hour per week plus prep, for a 10-week session
Administrative and General Support
- Clean Team
- Role: Monthly cleaning, organizing, and decorating
- Ideal for: Youth groups, businesses
- Commitment: Once a month
- Marketing/PR
- Tasks: Media contact, press releases, flyer and brochure creation
- Writers
- Scope: grant writing, etc.
- Fundraisers
- Role: Research and network with potential sponsors/donors
Committee Participation
- Facilities Committee
- Focus: Maintenance and growth of the Playhouse
- Outreach Committee
- Focus: Community engagement, social interactions, promoting GiGi’s Tampa story
- Governance Committee
- Focus: Board health, policy, recruitment
- Fundraising Committee
- Role: Plan events and fundraising initiatives
Special Event Committees
- BeYOUtiful Fashion Show
- Event: Celebrate attendees with a fashion show
- GFAC
- Focus: Peer engagement combined with fitness
- Casino Night
- Event: Adult night with games, food, and fun
- Welcome Windows
- Project: Highlight our kids on the front of the building
- Bowling for Turkeys
- Event: Family bowling with prizes
