Who Will you Run, Walk or Dash for? | Team Ava 2016 | GiGi’s Playhouse 2016 5k
It is that exciting time of year again when dedicated volunteers gather together and plan the amazing GiGi’s Playhouse 2016 5k event! Registration is open and we encourage you to start a team or join your favorite! Over the next two months we will be sharing the stories shared with us by Team Captains and why GiGi’s Playhouse is so important to the Syracuse community! We run, walk and dash, for kids, adults and families who turn to GiGi’s Playhouse for no cost programs, positive support, and a community who extends them unconditional acceptance. #generationG
We are kicking off our 2015 5k series with Board of Managers President Matt Dwyer……..(hands over mic) 😉
This year, our family is pulling together Team Ava 2016! for GiGi’s Playhouse’s fifth annual 5K on August 20th. Our goal is to raise $1000. We’ve never missed this great event.
The time leading up to the 5K is an opportunity to talk with friends, family and co-workers about the Playhouse and ask for support. We’ve set up a team page on the 5K website and are getting the word out through social media and in our conversations with friends.
What we tell people is that GiGi’s Playhouse is very important to Ava and our family. For us, it’s all about how she can be the best she can be. We don’t know what Ava’s limits are and what more she will achieve. There’s an overwhelming belief at the Playhouse that Ava can do it. She and our family are surrounded by encouragement and the idea that each time she’s there, she can do a little more, a little better. She loves being there.
Many of our proudest moments with Ava are at the Playhouse. She beamed at her first dance performance onstage through our Dance program. It took a few weeks, but she learned how to participate in a group at our Backpack buddies. At literacy tutoring, she read a book to a small group and could not have been happier with herself.
We need our Playhouse to always be there. There’s nothing else like it. It supports our family and hundreds of others including people with Down syndrome, their family, friends & the community. There are no costs to families for anything, but it takes generous support from our community and volunteers to run the Playhouse every day.
If there’s one thing I’d want to say to our community about the Playhouse, it would be that it’s an amazing place, but it’s up to each of us to make it what we want it to be. Whether you are a parent, participant, donor or volunteer, you can do something that makes a big difference in our community. ~ Matt Dwyer, GiGi’s Playhouse Syracuse Board of Managers & Ava’s Dad.
