Back to School! #generationG Style

Back to School! Here we go!

Ahhh, crisp mornings and the hustle and bustle of school morning is back!  Most parents are excited and hopeful as the school year starts. Happy for a routine and the excitement of new friends. Some parents feel nervous and a little sad to send their little out into the world again. Will the teacher be kind and expect the best from my child, will my kiddo find his/her people and make friends?  Let’s face it moms and dads, back to school comes with a lot of emotions!  We have gather up a few different back to school tips & inspirations.  We hope you enjoy.

We are going to start with our friends at GiGi’s Playhouse Quad Cities with this post they shared a few years ago but is still relevant and filled with some great tips on our learners with Down syndrome. Click HERE

Next we would like to share a sweet story of unexpected friendship from right here in Syracuse. We are sure this will give you a smile…

GiGi's Playhouse Syracuse Back to School

“Hi I’m Madison and I met my best friend Amelia in the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year. When I say she was my best friend she was also a life teacher to me. At Amelia and my school we have a buddy system and that is when an older student grades 3-6 get matched up with a student in the younger grades. I was chosen to be Amelia’s buddy, what a privilege! Before meeting Amelia I didn’t know anything about Down syndrome but Amelia taught me more than you can imagine. Things such as it may take a friend with Down syndrome a little longer to accomplish something than people without Down syndrome but they are just as smart, speaking is very difficult, they are hard workers, and things like that. Amelia and I became good good friends by the end of the year….
Oh wait we became good good friends the first second we met each other. She will have a new buddy next year but she will always be my buddy for life.”  Maddie, all of us at GiGi’s are so thankful for the kind of young lady and friend you are! You set a wonderful example to your peers with your kindness, generosity & acceptance. You are #generationG

Up next we zip over to Florida, where our friend Kelle Hampton is show how she is sharing Down syndrome in her daughters class. We love this, let’s talk about it, approach. Click HERE

Finally, we are super excited to be gearing up our next session of Literacy Tutoring right here at GiGi’s Playhouse Syracuse!

This literacy education includes not only direct instruction with the child, but educating the parents as well. GiGi’s Literacy program builds a foundation from the beginning in articulation, sight word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension.
