Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Patricia

Patricia and Nick

Patricia discovered GiGi’s Playhouse from a news event covering the Donut Run back in 2022. “My husband and I decided it was a great way to show our support for the Down Syndrome community. After participating in the run, I felt I wanted to find a way to volunteer in a more direct way. My younger brother, who has Down Syndrome, has been my inspiration for working with individuals with special needs. I also have teaching experience, which made a perfect match for the tutoring program.” – Patricia.

Patricia’s favorite thing about GiGi’s Playhouse is the opportunity to volunteer for an organization that has a special meaning to her. Her brother, Danny, is now an older adult, and has different needs. She would like to see GiGi’s provide additional programs and services for older adults.

”Working with Nicholas has been a true blessing. We developed a special bond during the spring math tutoring session, and it was wonderful to see him again for our summer session. Nicholas is an adult, so we spend our time brushing up on our math skills and having fun at the same time. We usually end our session by playing a game, or two!!” – Patricia.
