Volunteer Spotlight – Meet Georgia
At GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego, many of our amazing volunteers first discover us through a personal family connection—and we’re endlessly grateful when those connections lead them to our doors. Family volunteers bring a unique, heartfelt perspective to everything they do, and their impact can be felt throughout the Playhouse. Georgia is a perfect example.
While studying at San Diego State University, Georgia was offered the chance to complete an in-person internship with an organization providing disability services. She found and reached out to GiGi’s Playhouse—and, as they say, the rest is history.
Only later did we learn about Georgia’s own special family connection to our mission. Curious to hear more, we asked Georgia to share her experience as a GiGi’s volunteer. Here’s what she had to say:
- What made you want to volunteer?
“I wanted to volunteer At GiGi’s Playhouse because my Uncle has Down syndrome, which has given me a love and passion for working with individuals with Down syndrome. I love seeing their beautiful smiles and being around their sweet personalities. I also thought that the support GiGi’s Playhouse provides for individuals and families within our community is amazing and I wanted to contribute to that!“
- What are your favorite things about volunteering here at GiGi’s?
“My favorite things about volunteering at GiGi’s are forming relationships with the participants and laughing with them. I have loved getting to know each individual and they have each made me feel so welcome since our first meeting. It’s so fun to get to know them more day by day and experience their friendship. I also enjoy hearing their many jokes and witnessing their mannerisms that never fail to make me laugh. Experiencing the many unique personalities of the individuals at GiGi’s Playhouse has definitely been a highlight for me.”
- What do you think we could improve on?
“I have no notes for improvement, I have loved volunteering at GiGi’s and the staff and volunteers are so helpful and kind! :)”
- Anything else you would like to add?
“GiGi’s Playhouse is such an important place for individuals and families, and their smiles and gratitude is evidence of the amazing work GiGi’s does. I am happy to be part of such an amazing program and can’t wait to see what else GiGi’s continues to do for the community.”
We absolutely love hearing our volunteers share their personal connections as well as experiences during programs. Our volunteers are certainly the backbone of this amazing organization and provide such an important component ensuring our participants always have the opportunity to have their Best of All moments!
