Participant Spotlight

Dancing Queen Isabella

Dance is one of those things that we don’t necessarily think is an exercise because it can be so fun and encourages so much movement. It is one of the activities many of our participants enjoy! One of those participants, Isabella who is 12, enjoys the art of dancing and has that natural born stage presence. She also enjoys many of the other family events, programs, and 1:1 tutoring GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego has to offer

Isabella also participates in the San Diego Regional Center’s Self-Determination Program https://www.sdrc.org/sdp, where she is involved in local social recreation activities and included with her peers in the community. One of her favorite activities is her weekly ballet class at A Step Above Dance Studio, where she dances with her sister, Emma, and her best friend, Khloe. https://www.asadancestudio.com/

Isabella recently participated in the 2023 Iconic Dance Recital, which was nothing short of spectacular! There were 527 dancers performing throughout the recital weekend, which consisted of 8 dance shows. Dancers were able to perform their love of dance while creating memories and friendships. Isabella’s show on Sunday evening had a full house with 500 guests in the audience. You can watch the videos of her performance of Jackson 5 and Rusted Root here:

 ASA 8 – 2023 Sunday 530pm 33 – Jackson 5.mp4

Isabella can’t wait for this upcoming summer as A Step Above Dance Studio prepares to host its 15th annual dance recital, coming in June 2024. Isabella’s parents have noticed ballet helps improve her confidence, patience, social and emotional abilities, and is a healthy form of exercise.

We say dance on Isabella!!!

GiGi’s Playhouse San Diego also offers a free dance program at Tap Fever every other Friday, check out our calendar for more details.
