“When I answered the phone, I will never forget what she said.”

When I left teaching special education to start Able Transition, I was excited, scared, grateful and fearful. The tension of all of these emotions were very real. I knew quality life-long transition planning needed to happen. But I was afraid of the what if’s and how I would manage to educate others on what transition is and its importance.

When I worked with one of my first clients, I was again excited, scared, grateful and yes…a little bit fearful. We worked together for a few weeks and developed a life-long person-centered plan for her son.

And when we were finished, she called me. When I answered the phone, I will never forget what she said.

After releasing a few tears she said, “You have no idea what this plan means to me or my son. I know that if I am gone tomorrow, the rest of my family will have this plan. I know his future will be better because of this. Thank you for taking fears away and stress I have been feeling. I know his life will be so much better.”

With emotion in her voice she kept thanking me. We talked for a few more minutes and then I hung up the phone. Sitting at my desk I realized not all of my fear was gone, but I had something else, hope. I was given hope that transition planning, entering into the lives of clients, collaborating and building a comprehensive and holistic plan does indeed change lives.

Today, I am so grateful that this is what I get to do! And the hope I have has only grown. What a gift this work is and what a gift to share it with you.

My team and I are ready to support you, to enter into your lives and build a plan that will change your/your child’s future. Are you ready?
