Planning for 2020

As many of you know the Playhouse is 99% volunteer run and as we’re planning for the upcoming year we are finding ourselves needing to fill some specific volunteer roles. If you or anyone you know may be interested, attend an upcoming information session to learn more or use the contact information at the end of this blog. We’re looking forward to an exciting new year and hope you’ll join us in making it even better!

Program Coordinator

This volunteer will work collaboratively with the staff, leaders and others to help coordinate, plan, and oversee the program line-up and schedule. This volunteer position requires a commitment of 1-2 hours per week (flexible).

Program Leader(s)

This volunteer role will help plan, coordinate and oversee the program of your choice with the current leader. This is a commitment of 2-4 hours a month, depending on the program.

Program Co-Leader(s)

This volunteer role will help plan, coordinate and oversee the program of your choice with the current leader. This is a commitment of 2-4 hours a month, depending on the program.

Current Leader and/or Co-Leader Opportunities:

  • Teen Tastic/Fantastic Friends Co-Leader – This program meets every other Friday night at is for teens/adults with Down syndrome. The Co-Leader will work with another leader already in place to plan and implement activities.
  • Playhouse Pals/Kids Club Leader or Co-Leader – This program meets the 4th Saturday of the month at 9 am and is for ages 6-12 year of age. This person will work with another leader already in place to plan and implement activities.
  • Destination Discovery Leader or Co-Leaders – This program meets the 4th Saturday of every month and is for all ages. It is a new program to our local Playhouse, and we’re excited to work with a volunteer to get it up and going. This Leader and/or Co-Leader would work independently or with another person to plan and implement the program and activities. Grab a friend and become co-leaders for this new program!
  • Open Play Leader/Host – This program has a flexible meeting schedule and is for all ages. We hope to work with a volunteer to offer it on days of no school or other days/times where we think it will encourage families to utilize the Playhouse for indoor play, socialization, and networking.
  • Leaps & Bound Leader – This program is for ages 3-5 and focuses on school readiness. It will be held in the summer as a session-based program. Once a week for 8 weeks. Perfect for an educator with the summer off but education background is not required.

Program Substitute Leader(s)

This volunteer role will fill in to oversee the program of your choice when the current leader is unavailable. This is a commitment of 1-2 hours a month, as needed.

Party Planner(s)

We host specials parties and gatherings throughout the year such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, World Down Syndrome Day, and the Summer Picnic. We are looking for a few individuals (or a group) willing to take on the planning of one or more of these events.

Speech & Language Pathologist 

This is a contract/paid position for a certified Speech and Language Pathologist. The schedule is flexible and can vary dependent on the applicant’s availability. Must hold a State of Illinois license. This is not a full-time position. The hours and pay will be depend on the number of students contracted to see per session.
