Music Therapy (Birth-3 years & 4-8 years)

Come move, sing, and play instruments with us as we address communication, following directions, and so much more! These music therapy sessions are provided by West Music and a board-certified music therapist! Registration for this 10-week music therapy session is closed. The series will run on Wednesdays 5:30- 6:00 p.m. (birth-3 years) and 6:15- 7:00 p.m. (4-8 years) from June 5th- August 14th.

Open Play (all ages)

Open Play invites families and their friends to the Playhouse for playtime! Open Play helps promote positive beginnings for new families with a child with Down syndrome, creates awareness opportunities for peers and friends, as well as support and networking for current families. Come ready for fun and a crazy good time! Open to families with children of all ages and their friends.

LMNOP (Birth-5 years)

LMNOP is an interactive and engaging program designed to guide parents and young children through learning basic sign language and other forms of communication using music and language-based activities. The theme will be ZOO! We recommend this program for ages birth-5 years.

Leaps & Bounds (3-5 years)

This program focuses on the development of large and small muscle groups. Children will participate in fun and engaging activities that require movement and interaction with their development. The theme will be ZOO! Our Leaps & Bounds program is recommended for 3-5 years old.

Dance Me a Story (6-9 years)

Dance Me a Story; Exploring Literature through Ballet is a fun interactive dance program for people of all ages encouraging reading through the vehicle of dance. Dance Me a Story gives the participant a physical and imaginative way of interpreting what is read from a book and translating the words into a creative movement.

Playhouse Pals & Kids Club (6-12 years)

Playhouse Pals and Kid’s Club are teaming up to this month to talk about water safety. Playhouse Pals is an interactive and engaging program. We support the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting. Kids Club supports the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual and fun setting.

Friends, Fun, and Fitness (13+)

Our friends get together for physical activity and healthy eating tips, tailored just for teens and adults! Friends, Fun & Fitness is provided in cooperation with CrossFit OC3 and a grant provided by the Scott County Regional Development Authority. Registration is closed for this program and it will run every Thursday 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. from May 23rd-August 8th.

Teen Tastic (13-17) & Fantastic Friends (18+)

Teen Tastic promotes friendship, social interactions, communication through a variety of social activities, outing, and games for teens. Participants in Teen Tastic gain confidence, leadership skills, and empowerment while working as part of a team or on individual projects and tasks.

Fantastic Friends program supports the development of social skills and language through peer to peer interaction in a casual fun setting. Adult participants participate in the planning of activities so that group activities are based on personal interests.

Family Speaker Series

Special Olympics representatives from both Illinois and Iowa will be joining us for this Family Speaker Series. These representatives will be talking about the what, how & who of the Special Olympics! The Family Speaker Series touches on a variety of topics, allowing our families to come in and talk with one other, as well as, bringing community members to the Playhouse to provide ideas and strategies to our families.

Art Explosion

Art Hives will be coming to GiGi’s Playhouse to host an art pop-up for the Art Explosion program! Art Explosion provides hands-on experience with multiple art media and provides an outlet for individuals with Down syndrome to express themselves, build confidence and socialize with peers. Recommended for individuals with Down syndrome ages 3 and up.
