Did you know that Christmas preparation is a great time to work on fine motor skills and practice speech/language skills?
Wrapping presents is a fantastic way to work on cutting, folding, general fine motor skills, and following directions.
Addressing cards give you a chance to practice handwriting, and if you talk about who you are sending each card to, how you know them and a little about each person/family it sparks conversation. Even if you do the writing yourself, stamps and stuffing the envelopes offer fine motor practice.
Baking has lots of opportunities for fine motor, and even gross motor activities, and talking while baking is just a natural way to practice conversation skills.
Shopping, budgeting, and how to have good relationships with family are also perfect topics for other life-skills practice/conversation.
Making your own decorations and noisemakers for New Years and discussing resolutions is great too!
Here are some suggestions for homemade celebration supplies.
Happy Holidays from Ms. Ann!
PS Don’t forget to send a card to the Playhouse! We will hang it in the welcome area for all visitors to see!
