Together!

The 2017 Superhero Run, Walk and Dash for Down Syndrome is just one week away. Last year we had approximately 700 people in attendance and we are on target to reach that again this year. Friends, family members, coworkers, and neighbors will come together to support local individuals with Down syndrome and raise funds for free programs to help them achieve their #bestofall.

We know you will be there! You may wonder what to expect. You can expect to have a great time and leave with a happy heart.

This quote was taken from a recent Facebook post: Jen and I (Kim Stickell) are officially signed up to participate in the GiGi’s Playhouse 5k on October 7th!!! We had so much fun last year. What great families and what a great event. Everyone is super friendly!!!”

It is a fun, family friendly, and inspirational morning. The day will kick off with the competitive 5K where the top female and male runners will receive trophies. The top 25 runners will all received awards as well. Some of the runners will be dressed as superheroes. Others will be in whatever running gear they are comfortable in. This event is a timed event using chipped bibs and is overseen by a company called End:Results. The run results will be posted online after the event. They can be seen here.

The next portion of the day is the best part at least we think it is. It’s the Kids Dash! The kids will all line up and dash across the field. They will have their own race bibs (just like the 5K runners) and they will all receive a medal for participating.

After the kids are done dashing, families will assemble and prepare to take on the 1 mile walk together as team mates, friends and fellow supporters. This event is a symbol of togetherness. Together we will support each other and raise awareness for our loved ones with Down syndrome. Together we can do more. Together we are mighty. We are stronger TOGETHER!

In addition to all of the above, there will be raffle items, temporary tattoos, a bounce house, photo booth and a special guest…MO Mallard! Did we mention there are prizes for the best costumes? Well there are! Several participants will receive a small prize just for dressing up. Costumes are not required to participate but they are encouraged. No costume? It’s OK, you can always wear the cool shirt you get as part of your registration. (Shirts guaranteed for those that registered prior to 9/25/17). There will also be free ice cream thanks to the Vibrant ice cream truck and entertainment from the Sparkle effect cheerleaders. So much fun yet so little time! You won’t want the morning to end. But it will and by noon you’ll be on you way to the rest of your day.

Thank you for your support! See you on October 7th at Veterans Memorial Park in Bettendorf, IA.
