June 2024 Best of All

In June, we held our annual GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge and it was AMAZING! Be sure to visit the recap blog linked here. The rest of June was a blur of activity with all of our summer programs starting including two new programs/activities.

Participant Best of All

Recently during an Adult Group Speech “Coffee Club” program, Luke used his language skills to tell his peers about his new niece and nephew (twins). Luke had just returned from visiting his brother and sister-in-law in Colorado and was bursting with excitement.  Luke was already a proud uncle but was so excited to show his friends the pictures of his new niece and nephew.  He had his phone and couldn’t wait to share.  When the group talked about what people had done over the weekend, he told them he had a new niece and nephew.  He walked around the group showing pictures and telling everyone their names (which was great as he was able to practice good articulation and language skills!). You couldn’t meet an uncle who is more proud than Luke.

The GiGi’s Speech & Language Group for Adults facilitates newly developed communication skills providing a more natural communication between peers. Participants ages 18+ practice new skills through informal interaction with other members of the group, with the guidance of a program leader.

Volunteer Spotlight

With over 50 volunteers assisting the week of our GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge-Superhero Run & Walk, it is incredibly hard to narrow down just one to shine the spotlight on. This month we narrowed it down to two. They are the dynamic duo that truly makes the run/walk happen. Mark is the coordinator for the 5K portion of the event and Natalie works closely with our Site Director to oversee the rest of the event. They have both been doing this for years and have the process down to a science. Thank you Mark & Natalie for all you do!

Playhouse Inspiration

The month of June kicked off with inspiration during the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge and it only got better from there. We launched two new programs in June! The GiGi’s Rock Band (Music Makers) for those 16 and older and PT in the Park is a Destination Discovery series for ages 5-9 years. Both of these programs have been well received and are made possible thanks to dedicated subject matter experts. Rock Band is led by Sarah a Music Therapist with Quad Cities Music Therapy Center and PT in the Park is led by Paige who is a Physical Therapist. Their expertise makes these programs the best they can be while also incorporating many purposeful progressions.

YOU can submit your Best of All stories and moments too!

Staff typically choose these stories, but we’d love to hear from you too! If you see or hear something worth highlighting, please let us know!
