Who is Getting Prepared for the Fall Season and Halloween This Year?-Written by Fatima, GiGi’s NYC Participant

Happy Fall GiGi’s NYC!

I want to share some holidays that are celebrated in October. For example, they include National Homemade Cookies Day, World Card Making Day, World Octopus Day, National Pierogi Day, National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day, National Candy Corn Day, Halloween, and so many more! Also my birthday is in October, just before Halloween, on the 26th.

National Homemade Cookies Day is celebrated on October 1st, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion by baking cookies. I plan on baking sugar, chocolate chip, and funfetti cookies on this day.

World Card Making Day is also celebrated on October 1st, and on this day a lot of people enjoy creating handmade cards for others as gifts. One of my favorite things to do for others is make them cards for special occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, births of babies, and Valentine’s Day.

World Octopus Day is celebrated on October 8th. On this day, people cook octopus or go to a restaurant to enjoy it. I love octopus. My favorite ways to enjoy it are grilled with pasta on the side or as fried calamari. When I go out to eat, if octopus is on the menu, I usually order it.

National Pierogi Day is also on October 8th. On this day, many people like to eat pierogis at home or at a restaurant. I like my pierogis stuffed with meat and cheese. Sometimes I like spinach and cheese in them.

National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day is celebrated on October 12th, and I’m hoping to take my parents out to the restaurant of their choice. I hope you all take your parents out on this day.

National Candy Corn Day falls on October 30th, just in time for Halloween. Candy corn is a very popular candy in October. It can be eaten by itself or added to Halloween baked desserts. For people who have birthdays in October like I do, you can add candy corn to your birthday cake along with extra frosting.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st, and I plan on going trick-or-treating and also giving out candy to trick-or-treaters. Chocolate Kisses, Twix bars, and Hershey’s chocolate are my favorite candy to get on Halloween night.

October 26th is one of my favorite days in the month because it’s my birthday. I will be turning 23 this year. On my actual birthday, I am planning on going on a romantic dinner date with my boyfriend, Peter. I also plan on celebrating over the weekend with my family by having dinner.

This month’s restaurant review is on Watawa Sushi in Astoria. This is a very good Japanese sushi restaurant. I like all their sushi rolls, but my favorites to order are the california roll, shrimp tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, philadelphia roll, and spicy tuna roll. They also have very good teriyaki. The restaurant is beautiful inside, and the service is friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant. You can find it at 33-10 Ditmars Blvd., Astoria, NY 11105.

I hope to see everyone at GiGi’s NYC Annual Gala on Thursday, October 19th. It’s going to be so much fun like always!

With a lot of love,

Fatima
