Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Elizabeth!

GiGi’s NYC is proud to introduce Elizabeth, one of our amazing volunteers! Elizabeth has been a dedicated member of our community since 2021, and has volunteered in a variety of programs including Yoga and Summer Programs. She is kind, warm, flexible, and generous with her free time! We look forward to having Elizabeth continue to grow with our community, and to foster even more meaningful relationships with our participants!

Read below to learn more about her:

How and when did you first get involved with GiGi’s NYC?

I got involved with GiGi’s NYC in the spring of 2021. I attended a few orientations and then I officially started volunteering in July 2021 at Summer Horizons.

Why did you decide to volunteer with GiGi’s NYC?

I decided to volunteer with GiGi’s NYC because I was moved by the mission statements and informational videos on their website. I was searching for a volunteer opportunity, and I knew that I wanted to somehow work with children or teenagers. I had done research projects about Down syndrome before I began this search, so I knew that becoming involved in a community of individuals with Down syndrome was an interest of mine.

How did you find out about GiGi’s NYC?

I found out about GiGi’s NYC through my own Google search. I looked for community centers and programs for children with Down syndrome and GiGi’s NYC was the first place that caught my eye!

What do you do as a volunteer?

As a volunteer I have been a buddy at GiGi’s NYC summer programs and the program assistant for yoga throughout the year. My favorite volunteer role was attending the summer programs because I loved seeing the same familiar faces every day and I really enjoyed going on field trips with everyone. I hope to be as involved with GiGi’s NYC as my schedule allows!

What is the best part about volunteering with GiGi’s NYC?

The best part about volunteering with GiGi’s NYC is forming relationships with the participants. I enjoyed volunteering at the summer programs so much because I was really able to form close bonds after spending so many hours a day with my buddy pairs.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

In my free time I enjoy watching movies, hanging out with my friends, and listening to music while walking around outside.

GiGi’s NYC is truly grateful for Elizabeth and all that she gives to our community!
