Volunteer Spotlight: Hunter Carney

Meet Hunter, GiGi’s NYC volunteer! Hunter began volunteering with us earlier this year and quickly became a cherished member of our community. She started by volunteering with our Leaps and Bounds Program, then joined us for Community Chorus. Hunter is warm, welcoming, kind and loving – and we are so thankful to have her!

Read below to learn more about her:

How and when did you first get involved with GiGi’s NYC?

I first got involved at GiGi’s in April 2022 after moving to New York and looking into volunteer opportunities with the Down syndrome community.

Why did you decide to volunteer with GiGi’s NYC?

In my previous volunteer and work experience, I have worked with the Down syndrome community and it really changed my life. I found a wonderful group of people and want to always be an advocate and a part of this community.

What do you do as a volunteer?

I have been a Program Assistant for Leaps and Bounds and Community Chorus!

What is your favorite thing about the GiGi’s NYC community?

The acceptance, the smiles, the kindness. Everyone (participants, families, staff, volunteers) I have met has been incredibly warm and welcoming.

What is the best part about volunteering with GiGi’s NYC?

The community! Volunteering is the best part of my week, I am always excited to go and leave with a huge smile on my face.

GiGi’s NYC thanks Hunter for all that she does to help make our community even more amazing!
