Participant Spotlight: Nick

Meet Nick, GiGi’s NYC newest community member! Nick began attending programs and special events in early 2022, and has quickly become part of the GiGi’s NYC family. He moved to NYC from Arkansas and already travels to the Playhouse independently via the subway. Way to go, Nick! Check out his blog below to learn more about him:

  • When did you join the GiGi’s NYC community? I moved to New York City in February, so probably in March or April.
  • How old are you? I am 33.
  • What GiGi’s NYC programs do you attend? The theater group CO/LAB and Bowling Buddies.
  • How did you find out about GiGi’s NYC? My sister Autumn found them online.
  • Which programs have meant the most to you and why? I would say the theater group because it’s fun. I met some good people.
  • What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you? GiGi’s NYC means that I’m making friends that have Down syndrome as well.
  • How do you enjoy spending your free time? A lot of stuff—watching TV, eating, watching YouTube, taking naps, and hanging out with family.
  • What achievements are you most proud of? Graduating from middle school and high school and doing Special Olympics.
  • What do you want the GiGi’s NYC community to know? I’m fun and outgoing. I’m a people person. I’m kind of smart. I love helping people, I love people and I look for the good in people.
  • What would you like to see from GiGi’s NYC in the future? Do you have any ideas for new programs or special events? I would say Yoga and Zumba in-person.

GiGi’s NYC is really looking forward to learning more about Nick and having him continue attending programs and events with us. We are so proud of all the strides he’s made in the short amount of time he’s been in NYC. Nick, you rock!
