Meet the Associate Board: Griffin Rohs

We are excited to launch our new blog series, Meet the Associate Board! This week, we would like to introduce Griffin Rohs, the President of the Associate Board. We hope you enjoying getting to know Griffin throughout the below Q&A.

How and when did you first get involved with GiGi’s Playhouse NYC?

My first GiGi’s NYC event was the debut Fashion Show held at Bloomingdale’s in 2018. I jumped in as a volunteer at the last minute, and it was such an amazing experience that I knew I had to keep working with GiGi’s NYC and the incredible people that make the Playhouse such a great place to be.

Why did you decide to join the Associate Board of Directors?

After working with the Associate Board (AB) for the Fashion Show, I was inspired by the entire effort and the group of people that created such a successful event. The opportunity to work with them and the GiGi’s NYC family was too good to pass up!

What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you?

To me, GiGi’s NYC represents what everyone in New York City looks for – a sense ocommunity. Such a big place can be overwhelming, but having such a close-knit group of people advocating for individuals with Down syndrome makes it a very special place.

What do you do on the Associate Board?

I currently serve as the Associate Board’s President, but previously worked as the New Membership Vice President (and still kind of do! We’re hiring)!

What is your favorite thing about the GiGi’s NYC community?

Too many to choose from! But, the Fashion Show is near and dear to my heart. Being able to show off the amazing talent of our GiGi’s NYC members on the runway is so cool – and you wouldn’t believe the crowds! You have to see it to believe it.

What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?

To me, awareness is being conscious about just who our GiGi’s NYC members are and CAN be – incredible people of all ages that want to share their happiness and joy with anyone and everyone. Acceptance is an easy one for me – if you spend five minutes with any GiGi’s individual, I think you quickly realize how upbeat, positive, and great they truly are.

What from our community are you most proud of?

The overwhelming sense of family and community drives me to give as much time as I can to GiGi’s NYC – the effort of the families, friends of the Playhouse, and volunteers is truly inspiring.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

I’m always trying to get out on a golf course! Staying outdoors and active is definitely top of mind when I get free time. I’m always searching out that cool new restaurant as well – NYC is the perfect place for it.

What do you want the GiGi’s Playhouse NYC community to know?

I want them to know how ready I am to see all of them in person again, and to stay positive and continue to inspire us with their achievements and efforts each and every day!

Thank you, Griffin! We are so grateful for everything that you do for our community and hope we can host a Fashion Show again soon! We are fortunate to have you as the President of our Associate Board.
