February Holidays and Romantic Opportunities for Valentine’s Day, Written by Fatima – GiGi’s NYC Participant

There are a few holidays celebrated in February. These include Groundhog Day, World Cancer Day, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, George Washington’s birthday, National Freedom Day, and Valentine’s Day. The February holidays are always about being with loved ones, including the love of your life.

Groundhog Day was on Thursday, February 2, 2023. This is a day where a groundhog that lives in Pennsylvania comes out of the ground. If he sees his shadow, he gets scared and goes back underground. This means there will be six more weeks of winter. If he comes out and does not see his shadow, he stays above ground, and there will be an early spring. This year, he saw his shadow, so six more weeks of winter!

World Cancer Day was on Saturday, February 4, 2023 , and a lot of people prevent millions of deaths each year by raising awareness and education about cancer and pressing governments and individuals across the world to take action against the disease. This is a popular day to donate to charities that research cures for cancer.

Abraham Lincoln’s birthday was on Sunday, February 12th, and George Washington’s birthday is on Monday, February 20th. Both of these former presidents are honored with a wreath-laying ceremony.

My favorite days in February are Valentine’s Day, which falls on February 14th, and is also my parents wedding anniversary (23 years!) and my father’s birthday, which is on February 10th. These days are all about spreading love around the world. A lot of people celebrate their lives together on Valentine’s Day.

I am honored to have a lot of valentines including my caring, supportive, and protective boyfriend Peter, my grandparents Pop-Pop and Maureen, my friends from GiGi’s NYC, my parents, my brother Harris, my helper Laura, my pet parakeet Nikki and my friends from Canada since they are very kind.

There are a lot of romantic opportunities for Valentine’s Day. These include going out on a date, being surprised with gifts like flowers and chocolate from your loved ones, going to dinner with your extended family, and celebrating marriages and wedding anniversaries. Valentine’s Day is about celebrating love and getting together with people that you love.

This Valentine’s Day I’m looking forward to spending quality time with my boyfriend. I hope to go to a late dinner date with him at a Japanese, Chinese, or Italian restaurant or get fast food at a food truck.

What kind of celebrations do you have planned for Valentine’s Day? Let me know in the comments below.

Wishing you all a lovely Valentine’s Day!

Love always,

Fatima
