All Things May! – By Fatima, GiGi’s NYC Participant

There are several holidays celebrated in May. For example, Brothers and Sisters Day, Cinco de Mayo, National Nurse’s Day, National Teacher’s Day, Mother’s Day, National Chocolate Chip Day, National Hamburger Day, and Memorial Day.

National Brothers and Sisters Day was celebrated on Tuesday, May 2nd, and a lot of people do different things to celebrate this occasion by getting together with their sibling and exchanging gifts. I ordered sushi from JJ Fusion for dinner with my brother Harris!

Cinco de Mayo is celebrated on May 5th every year. This celebration commemorates Mexico’s victory over the second French Empire in 1862. A lot of people do different things to celebrate the occasion by having tacos and burritos. Also people that are from Mexico go to parades on that day to see others perform.

National Nurse’s Day was celebrated on Saturday, May 6th, and a lot of people do different things to celebrate the nurses in the world, such as having hot meals delivered to the hospital so that nurses can enjoy good food while at work. National Nurse’s Week begins on May 6th and ends on May 12th.

National Teacher’s Day was celebrated on Tuesday, May 9th, and a lot of people honor all the teachers in the world. Students and parents take the day to do something to let their teachers know that they are always appreciated. This could be anything such as a nice card, an email, a gift card, a piece of chocolate, or helping them out with the class.

Mother’s Day was celebrated this past Sunday, on May 14th, and a lot of people honor the mothers in their lives, including mother-in-laws. A lot of people have different ways to celebrate this special occasion including making your mother breakfast in bed, taking her out for dinner at her favorite restaurant, going to the spa together, exchanging presents, spending quality time with each other, going to church together, taking a road trip, and going to the movies and then out for dinner. The presents I got for my mom included cleaning up the house so she can rest, attending church with her, going out for breakfast as a family, and having family dinner together. Happy Mother’s Day to all the special mothers and mother figures from GiGi’s NYC!

National Chocolate Chip Day was celebrated on Monday, May 15th, and a lot of people celebrate the occasion by making homemade chocolate chip cookies. Also, people may bake chocolate chip pancakes and chocolate chip muffins as a midnight snack.

National Hamburger Day is celebrated on Sunday, May 28th, and a lot of people around the world celebrate the occasion by having hamburgers and french fries for dinner. Some people may throw a hamburger-themed party, eat hamburgers for every meal, go out to their favorite hamburger restaurant, or experiment with making their own homemade burger. I enjoy having hamburgers with lettuce, tomatoes, and avocados on top, along with french fries for dinner.

Memorial Day is observed on Monday, May 29th this year, and a lot of people honor all the loved ones that lost their lives while serving our country. Also, people around the world visit cemeteries, attend memorial services, hold family gatherings, and participate in parades. This is one of the most important days of showing respect for our veterans that have passed away.

Before I leave, I would love to share a review of one of my favorite restaurants called Park Side. Park Side is an Italian restaurant in Corona, Queens that has been around for over 40 years. My family and I go there for special occasions because they have delicious food. I always look forward to enjoying different Italian dishes when I go to Park Side. I love their seafood combination with linguini, crispy fried calamari, grilled octopus, eggplant rollatini without basil, fettuccine alfredo, chicken parmigiana with spaghetti and mixed vegetables on the side, hot antipasto with shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed zucchini, eggplant parmigiana, manicotti, shrimp fra diavolo, mussels, and baked clams. Park Side is open 7 days a week and can host your parties. My family and I recommend this Italian restaurant to everyone at GiGi’s Playhouse NYC.

Until June!

Love always,

Fatima
