Intern and Coordinator Opportunities

Interns must be available during regular business hours, Monday through Friday between 8am and 4pm. The number of hours spent at the Playhouse is determined by higher education programs or an agreed upon amount between GiGi’s and the Intern.  Coordinators are given similar tasks, however are not "bound" by guidelines set forth from schools of higher education.

 

GiGi’s interns and coordinators learn the “ins” and “outs” of our non-profit organization by participating in the day-to-day tasks and are the glue that keeps everything together. A wide variety of experiences will be provided to support the needs of our Playhouse. Positions include a variety of tasks, some examples are:Community Outreach, Marketing / Promotions, Social Media, Programming Instruction or planning, Scheduling, and/or Volunteer Support, as well as other areas of support as needed.

 

Individuals with the following skills make the best interns and coordinators!

  • Able to complete tasks independently
  • Able to collaborate with others
  • Able to answer phones / take messages /make calls / leave messages
  • Is socially engaging, attentive, observant, sincere, outgoing
  • Has experience in creating print materials (flyers, spreadsheets, brochures) for social media and web-based newsletters
  • Is detail oriented
  • Individuals with interests or those that are working towards degrees in communication, journalism, business management, teaching, special education, therapy (OT, PT, Speech/Language) or a related field.

 

Interns or coordinators are likely to complete tasks related to the following areas:

 

Community Outreach

  • Communicate the mission and vision of GiGi’s Playhouse to others (spread positive awareness about individuals with Down syndrome)
  • Assist in contacting local businesses, schools, and Playhouse families to share Playhouse news, appeal for donations, sponsorships, underwriting and media opportunities.
  • Reach out to families, local businesses, etc. to update contact information

 

Marketing / Promotions / Social Media

  • Maintain online calendars and create print calendars
  • Write web content, newsletters, blogs, posts, tweets, etc. that encourage engagement with GiGi’s on social media
  • Create web content and printed media detailing Playhouse needs, upcoming events or opportunities for supporting the Playhouse.
  • Proofread and edit content produced by others, in keeping with GiGi’s Playhouse branding and business style guides

 

Programming

  • Completes tasks including monthly theme development and lesson planning for various programs.
  • Forms relationships with Playhouse families and community participants in programs.
  • Works with volunteers to guide them in how to support programs and individuals with Down syndrome.

All volunteers must attend an orientation, complete an application and have confidentiality forms on file. Program Leaders and Tutors must also complete the background check process.
