A research study opportunity

Physical therapy students from the University of Indianapolis will be conducting a research study on site at GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis. We are looking for children with Down syndrome who have been crawling (belly or on hands & knees) for at least 6 months, or have been walking by themselves for less than 6 months. In addition, children should not have had any surgery in the 3 months prior to starting the study. Participation will involve four 15-minute play sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart over a 4 to 6 month time. The child simply gets to play for 15 minutes, and the play sessions will be videotaped for analysis of how often and how long the child performed common gross motor skills, such as crawling, pulling to stand, standing and walking. All sessions will occur at GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis, 5909 E 86th Street. Please contact Dr. Kathy Martin at kmartin@uindy.edu or 317-788-2117 (toll free at 1-800-232-8634, ext. 2117) for more information.
