Making an Impact, one GiGiFIT class at a time: Shelly Collins

This month, we are recognizing Shelly Collins, a dedicated mom and volunteer at GiGi’s Playhouse. She spends her Tuesday’s and Thursday’s here at the playhouse, guiding our adults during GiGiFIT. We asked her to share a little bit of the impact volunteering has had.

“The Down Syndrome community has always been extremely important to me as growing up, my brother was born with down syndrome, and then by God ‘s grace, I gave birth to my daughter Paige, who was also diagnosed,” Paige is a participant in many of our programs here at GiGi’s!

“I searched for a place for her to thrive and grow when I found GiGi ‘s Playhouse fall of 2017, she thrived there amongst all her peers! As life would have it, they needed a volunteer for the fitness program, unsure if I would be a good fit, I found that it was a calling for me. Not only do I teach them, but they teach me every day.”

“These participants have become my heart and an attachment I never thought I would have for each one of them. It is impossible to have a bad day surrounded by this community! The impact this organization has made on my life personally and professionally is one of gratitude, hope for the future, and sincere admiration.  I will be forever grateful for the opportunity given to me!”

Thank you Shelly, and of course Paige, for giving back in the most meaningful way!
