GiGi U is Doing ALL the Things!

The Summer 2019 session of GiGi U is well underway and boy have we been busy! The past couple weeks, we have been working on improving our money skills. Every Wednesday, Miss Nancy and Miss Martie come in to play math games and we use pretend cash registers to practice counting and buying things.

Something else we’ve been focused on is eating healthy and setting goals for nutrition and fitness. It’s all about being realistic and optimistic about what we can accomplish! For nutrition, we use MyPlate, and we work on one section at a time. This comes in handy when we practice making a healthy lunch together once a week. Some of our delicious recipes have been grilled cheese and tomato soup, egg salad sandwiches with fruit, and tacos with tofu, beans, and lots of veggies! We are also getting good at finding healthy options from menus at Buona Beef and Jimmy John’s to practice eating well when we eat out.

Finally, we have been learning about workplace expectations and behaviors. We go through different scenarios and practice how to respond. To use conversation skills in a fun way, we play Conversation Jenga where each block has a question that we have to answer or a topic we have to discuss. We’ve also been learning how to use Microsoft Word as we work towards our goal of writing a resume.

We are also welcoming our large class of GiGi Prep students for the Summer session this week! We love working together to make progress and learn so many new things that we can take with us beyond the classroom and into the real world.
