3rd day of Fitness- Lateral tilts

Goal of movement- the goal of lateral tilts is to increase visual-vestibular coordination.  Leaning the body from side to side helps to calibrate the input that the brain is receiving from both the eyes (as the world visually seems to move) and from the body (as it moves).  Additionally, the side-to-side movement helps to calibrate both the inner ear vestibular receptors to each other (soe they are both sending the brain the same info).  This movement helps to “calibrate’ the VOR reflux so that balancing on one foot begins to feel easier and the “clumsiness” decreases.

Overstimulation should be avoided!  STOP activity if: excessive yawning, changes in skin color, headache, prolonged dizziness, pupil dilation or nausea occur.

Start with the first progression, if it is too easy then progress to the next progression until you are feeling that you are being challenged, but still able to maintain the integrity of the exercise. Remember to take pictures/videos, continue working on exercises previous and record all in 12 Days of Fitness tracker.

Progressions:

  1.  Lateral tilts with visual cues
  2. Lateral tilts without visual cues
  3. Lateral tilts with single leg HOLD
