Getting Connected to Research Opportunities

At GiGi’s Playhouse Cleveland, we know that research can sometimes feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be. Research helps us all better understand health, education, and employment for people with Down syndrome, and your participation can make a real difference. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, here are some great places to start:

* Join DS-Connect – This registry, created by the National Institutes of Health, connects individuals with Down syndrome to research opportunities. With permission, DS-Connect will notify participants when they qualify for a study and share details so families can decide if they’d like to participate.

* Explore NDSS Research Opportunities – The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) maintains a frequently updated list of research opportunities, including online surveys. These opportunities are reviewed by a team of experts, making them a safe place to start. Families can also sign up for the NDSS Newsletter to receive monthly updates on research and resources, and NDSS Advocacy Alerts to learn how to take action on policy priorities that impact research funding and support.

* Connect with Other National Leaders in Research – Organizations like LuMind IDSC and the Global Down Syndrome Foundation provide additional information on the latest Down syndrome research, including studies on health, cognition, and quality of life.

While we don’t conduct research ourselves, we are happy to connect you with trusted partners and resources like NDSS, LuMind IDSC, and the Global Down Syndrome Foundation. Together, we can empower families with knowledge, encourage safe participation, and help shape a brighter future for individuals with Down syndrome.
