A Monstrous EPIC Halloween: Read On If You Dare!

By: Shannon Lyons, Child Development Intern at GiGi’s Playhouse Chicago

This past Sunday, GiGi’s Playhouse hosted a Halloween party with our adult EPIC group. The group celebrated the spooky season by watching ‘Hotel Transylvania’, decorating the Playhouse, snacked on Halloween treats and popcorn, and created a Halloween pumpkin craft. Disney’s Elsa, Sonic the Hedgehog, Spiderman, Mummy, Spiderella, and Frankenstein made an appearance! Special guests: Maggie, Ian, Sam, Colleen, Ryan, and Colin.

Also, this week, Teen Tastic got into the spirt and made monster mash trail mix! The participants created individual mixes of yummy goodies with popcorn, candy corn, pretzels, raisins, Reese’s Pieces, and mixed nuts to make it a treat, not a trick!

We continued the festivities with another EPIC Halloween bash, with our filming group. The participants came in their Halloween costumes, created spooky Mad Libs, strutted their costumes in a Halloween fashion show, and filmed segments for their Playhouse video tour. Each participant brought their own unique ideas, personalities, and outlook to every activity. The program leaders, who are occupational therapy students at Rush University, took an individual initiative for this Halloween fun. As they celebrated Halloween together, much collaboration was happening, especially during the group’s film editing project for the Playhouse. Assigning roles, the participants each received a star, to symbolize what their role is in the project. Stay tuned for their Playhouse video tour premiere next Friday!

Happy Halloween!
