July Volunteer Spotlight: Sara Dye

Hello GiGi’s Playhouse Canton Community! 

Today, we are thrilled to put the spotlight on one of our incredible volunteers, Sara Dye – a true gem within our GiGi’s Playhouse family! Sara’s vibrant personality, dedication, and invaluable contributions to our GiGiFIT program have undoubtedly left an indelible mark on our community. 

Meet Sara Dye: A GiGi’s Playhouse Dynamo 

Hailing from Canton, Ohio (technically Jackson/Massillon), Sara is a seasoned Sourcing Manager for Packaging at J.M. Smucker, bringing eight years of expertise to the table. Married to her husband Chris for five years, Sara is a proud stepmom to Sydnie (26), Nick and Luke (24), and a loving dog parent to Leo. Her interests span from fitness, food, podcasts, and DIY/home improvement, to cherishing quality moments with family and friends. 

GiGiFIT: Empowering Through Fitness 

For those who may not be familiar, GiGiFIT is more than just a fitness program; it’s a purposeful and progressive initiative designed for individuals with Down syndrome of all ages. Sara has played a crucial role in making GiGiFIT a haven for building strength, endurance, balance, and overall well-being through adaptive and engaging exercises. At GiGi’s Playhouse Canton, we’re firm believers that everyone, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Becoming a GiGi’s Playhouse Advocate 

Sara’s journey with GiGi’s Playhouse began when Lana, the daughter of close friends, was born with Down syndrome. Since then, Sara has been an integral part of our Playhouse, involved from its construction to its opening and beyond. Being a resource that she’s proud to be a part of, Sara’s commitment to GiGi’s Playhouse is truly commendable. 

Sara’s Role: GiGiFIT Program Assistant Extraordinaire 

She began volunteering with Fun, Fitness & Friends (FFF) which eventually evolved into the official GiGiFIT Adult program. Her expertise extends to seamlessly assisting participants with check-ins, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. 

Favorite Playhouse Moments: Building Connections and Progress 

For Sara, the most cherished experiences at the Playhouse are the relationships formed with participants and their families. Understanding that GiGi’s isn’t just for the participants but serves as a comprehensive network of support for the entire family, Sara takes pride in witnessing individuals come out of their shells and progress with the help and coaching provided. According to her, nothing beats that incredible sense of accomplishment.
