New Volunteer: Meet Andrea!

Andrea has always had a profound passion for children, particularly those with special needs. She is currently in the final semester of her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy program at Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. Post-graduation, Andrea aspires to embark on a fulfilling career as a school-based therapist, dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of children with special needs. While at GiGi’s Playhouse Andrea will be implementing her doctoral capstone that focuses on interactive physical activities that aim to boost social participation in children with Down syndrome.

Andrea went to Malone University for her undergrad degree and played on the women’s soccer team for 4 years. Outside of school, Andrea enjoys playing soccer, playing with her dogs, spending time with her fiancé and family, and spending time at her family’s lake house in the Finger Lakes.

Andrea is leading our GiGiFIT programs this spring, and we are so excited to have her involved! Be sure to stop in and say “hello” and stay for a tour of the Playhouse if you’re not part of this amazing program, then check it out and remember to sign up for the summer session!

The GiGiFIT programs are designed to address common issues for individuals with Down syndrome including hypotonia, excessive joint laxity, and decreased balance. Every GiGiFIT program is safe, effective, and progressive. GiGiFIT helps participants build strength, endurance, power, joint stability, balance, and movement control. GiGiFIT empowers participants to be more independent and confident in their abilities while improving their overall health and wellness!
