Volunteer Spotlight: Kayla H.

Hi, I’m Kayla! I’m a preschool Intervention Specialist at T.C. Knapp Elementary in the Perry Local School District. I’m local to the Canton area, graduating from Jackson HS in 2007. I have my master’s degree in Special Education with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Outside of teaching, I spend a lot of time serving in children’s ministry with my boyfriend Daniel at Woodlawn Church here in Canton. I am a Type 1 Diabetic and navigate daily life with an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor.

I learned about GiGi’s through their volunteer coordinator, Jessi. Jessi’s daughter, Adilene, was one of my students in preschool. I remember their family’s passion and excitement for GiGi’s to open here in Canton in 2019. Currently, I am one of the program leaders for Leaps and Bounds, working with children ages 3-5.

My favorite experience that I have had at the Playhouse has been building relationships, not only with the children, but with their families. I have met some of those most caring, kind and patient parents and caregivers through my time at GiGi’s. I love watching the parents interact with their children during our sessions. Everyone at GiGi’s in Canton definitely has a special place in my heart!

Favorites: Food: Italian, Favorite Color: Purple, Favorite Season: Fall

I love reading, camping, coffee, yoga & spending time with my family and friends.
