Looking Ahead: A Full Day of Strategy, Reflection, and Big Dreams for 2026
On Saturday, January 24, our Board of Directors and staff braved an incoming winter storm and gathered for a full-day strategic retreat to thoughtfully plan what 2026 will look like for GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta. Our partners at Beazer Homes graciously allowed us to make use of one of their conference rooms. As we celebrate 15 years of serving the Atlanta community, this retreat was both a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come and an exciting opportunity to dream boldly about what’s next.
The day was grounded in our shared mission: to change the way the world views Down syndrome and to provide a lifetime of FREE educational, therapeutic, and career development programs. From the very start, conversations centered on how we can continue to grow with intention while staying true to our promise to families.
A Strong Year to Celebrate
Before diving into the future, the board took time to celebrate the many successes of 2025. Program hours and volunteer engagement have continued to rise year over year, a powerful reflection of community support and the growing impact of the Playhouse. These wins set the tone for a productive day focused on sustainability, growth, and excellence.
A Major Focus: Adult Programming
One of the most meaningful and energizing discussions of the day focused on expanding and enhancing adult programming. As individuals with Down syndrome age, the need for continued opportunities for education, wellness, social connection, and independence becomes even more critical. The board and staff explored ways to strengthen current offerings and build new programs that support adults throughout every stage of life. This commitment reinforces our belief that the Playhouse is not just a place for childhood; it is a lifelong home.
Planning for Sustainable Growth
Throughout the retreat, the board reviewed the “State of the Playhouse,” examining people, programs, partnerships, and finances. Discussions included volunteer experience, donor and grant development, committee work, and how each area connects to our overall strategy for 2026. The goal was clear: grow responsibly, strengthen our foundation, and ensure we can continue delivering high-quality programs for years to come.
Welcoming New Board Members
The retreat was also a great opportunity for our newest board members—Mike Freeman, Katelyn Hulbert, and Lehr Eliason—to see firsthand the dedication, collaboration, and behind-the-scenes work that goes into running the Playhouse. Their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm were a wonderful addition to the day, and we are grateful for their willingness to serve our community.
Moving Forward Together
By the end of the day, one thing was clear: the future of GiGi’s Playhouse Atlanta is bright! With a committed board, passionate staff, and an incredible community behind us, we are ready to step into 2026 with purpose, clarity, and excitement.
We can’t wait to share more as these plans turn into action—and we are so grateful to everyone who makes this work possible.
