Dear Wayne and Apryl,

What lies ahead of you is a journey that you never expected. It’s an adventure and an honor all at the same time. It is a journey filled with many of life’s ups and downs. It is, however, going to be the greatest blessing you never saw coming. In just under six months you are going to meet the most magnificent, cutest, most heartwarming person what you will ever know. She is going to be a 5 pound 3 ounce bundle of joy. On August 29 at 08:23 AM you are going to get a chance to be introduced to none other than Sydney Nicole XXXX. One look into those hazel eyes and your heart is going to melt.

Now, the doctor just gave you what seems like some disturbing news. She told you that Sydney has something called Down syndrome. While I know this may be a bit scary to because you have no clue about what Down syndrome is. However, while Down syndrome is something that Sydney has, it does not make up the totality of who she is.

One of the things I know you are asking yourself is- why would God do this to you. However, trust me when I tell you God is not doing anything to you. He is doing something for you. He is giving you a gift that He has not given to just anybody. He has placed a treasure in your family full of love. A lot of people are going to tell you that God gives special children to special people. However, people who say such a thing do not realize that every child is special and a gift.

Yes, Sydney has Down syndrome, but she also has so much more. She has a smile that will melt the sadness of any storm away. She has a hug that will bring the giant of depression to its knees. She has a laugh that will dry up tears of frustration. She has a love that will make worry pack its bags and hit the road. By the way, you will discover all of this by the time she turns just one.

What lies ahead is a road that will not be easy. There will be some rough times ahead. But trust me when I tell you, if you had to do it all again, you would not choose for any other child. So keep your head up. You have got greatness on the way to meet you. Sydney Nicole XXXX will be the brightest sunshine of your day.
