Generation G, Inclusion and Kindness at a local Middle School

GiGi’s Playhouse mission is to change the way the world views Down syndrome through national campaigns, educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community.

As September rolls in, many children have that daunting task of starting a new school, making new friends and being accepted. One of our participants, Emily, started Middle school last week. She celebrated her birthday this week.  As a new middle schooler, Emily and her family were unaware of the tradition of decorating lockers for students’ birthdays. Unknown to them, another student Claire (who is not in Emily’s class) told her mom that she wanted to decorate Emily’s locker, she then reached out and planned with Emily’s teacher to do just that.  Here is the result:

Emily was thrilled as were her parents. Sharon, Emily’s mom commented: “I couldn’t be more proud of Claire and her fellow students at AMS, who show such kindness to my daughter. It is a shining example of how a community of diverse individuals coexist and support one another”

Claire and the other students at AMS have demonstrated that they are indeed Generation G and have definitely shown their #BestofAll.

Generation G is a conscious decision to be better every day.

Be Accepting.

Be Generous.

Be Kind.

Take the promise today!
