Morgan’s Caring Connection: Practical Support for Special Needs Planning

Morgan’s Caring Connection (MCC) is a nonprofit organization focused specifically on helping families who are raising a dependent with special needs prepare for the future. Its primary mission is to reduce the financial barriers associated with long-term legal and financial planning.

One of the core services MCC provides is its MCC Grants Program. These grants help families offset the cost of essential planning documents such as:

  • Special Needs Trusts
  • Wills
  • Guardianship or conservatorship documents
  • Other estate planning tools necessary to protect a dependent with disabilities

These legal structures are critical. A properly drafted special needs trust, for example, helps protect eligibility for government benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid, while allowing families to set aside funds to enhance their loved one’s quality of life. Without correct planning, an inheritance or financial gift can unintentionally disqualify an individual from essential benefits.

The cost of creating these documents through an attorney can be significant. For many families already managing therapy expenses, medical bills, adaptive equipment, and daily living costs, estate planning is often delayed due to finances. MCC addresses this gap by providing direct financial assistance through its grant program.

MCC’s process includes an application and review period. Grants are awarded to qualifying families to help cover a portion of the professional fees associated with creating these documents. By partnering with attorneys and financial professionals who understand disability planning, MCC ensures that families are connected with knowledgeable resources.

Beyond financial support, MCC also provides education about why special needs planning is necessary. Many families are unaware that standard wills alone are not sufficient to protect a child with disabilities. Without specific trust language and coordinated planning, assets may be distributed in ways that jeopardize public benefits. MCC helps families understand these risks and take appropriate steps to avoid them. For families at GiGi’s Playhouse, Morgan’s Caring Connection can serve as a practical parent resource by helping them access the legal planning tools necessary to secure their child’s future.

Special needs planning is not optional—it is essential. Establishing a special needs trust, clarifying guardianship, and creating a comprehensive estate plan ensures that a dependent with disabilities will continue to receive care, financial support, and benefit protection even after parents or primary caregivers are no longer able to provide it themselves.

Morgan’s Caring Connection exists to make that planning more accessible. By reducing financial obstacles and connecting families with experienced professionals, MCC helps ensure that long-term security is achievable—not just ideal. If you are interested in learning more, MCC holds monthly Zoom webinars that explain the planning process, grant opportunities, and next steps for families.
