Local School Makes a Difference

I just received an email from a teacher from Poplar Grove Elementary School. This teacher spear-headed a coin drive in the school in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month. She also invited me out to speak to all the classes about Down syndrome and what GiGi’s Playhouse provides for the community. Here is an email that I received from that teacher. It gave me tingles!
“Hello Paula,

Our coin fundraiser has officially ended and my class will be walking the coins to the bank this afternoon to have them all counted out. I would like to drop off the donation after work today if possible. Will you be there around 3:30 or 4:00? I’m so excited to see how much money we collected for you. The students at this school did a great job collecting coins. They really got a lot out of your presentation as well. One of my students from my classroom with Down Syndrome was at a church group with her mom and her mom told me that they saw students from our school. The kids came up to her and her daughter and were so excited to tell her all about how they were collecting coins for Down Syndrome and Gigi’s. The mom was so touched because she said her daughter has never been accepted as a peer and all of the kids were usually scared around her. She was so excited to see the kids accept her as a peer and ask her to play with them. I love hearing stories like this 🙂 “
I thank Kelly and Poplar Grove Elementary School for making the difference in the lives of people who have Down syndrome.

My Daughter is in Kelly’s class and has been for the last 3 years. She is an excellent teacher and has the patience that I have not seen. She really cares about this kids, and is a gem. Recently my daughter was in special Olympics and Kelly came out to see her. I can never say enough about this rare person.
