Time Well Served

One of our board members recently stepped down after serving several years with us.

Not only did he serve four years on the board, but he has also been part of the Gala Committee, the Fundraising & Finance Committee, and so much more! He was President of the board during the challenging times that COVID created and during our recent expansion project. He can honestly say he helped make changes happen here at GiGi’s Playhouse Quad Cities! Please help us say thank you to Matt Sweeney for his time in a leadership role here at the Playhouse!

We asked Matt to share a little about his experience here at GiGi’s and this is what he had to say:

This was my first experience being on a board and I really did not know what to expect. I was committed to helping but wasn’t sure what my role would be. I think GiGi’s and our staff did a great job of setting expectations and creating a welcoming environment.

Our biggest project in the last year would be the expansion of the playhouse. This project was in the works for a number of years. We didn’t always agree on how or when this was going to happen, but as a board, we worked together. We came up with a game plan, and when the space opened next door we decided to commit. The expansion has opened a number of opportunities for the playhouse. We can now offer more tutoring, and multiple sessions at one time, and this will allow us to offer more programs in the future.

He would like anyone interested in joining the board to know this:

Joining the board is a very rewarding challenge. You have a group of people that are striving to make the playhouse better each day. It is important to take the responsibility seriously, but enjoy your time on the board. When you see your plans executed it is such a rewarding feeling.

We’re not saying goodbye because he and his family are still active participants in programming and events here at the Playhouse so we will still be seeing him!

Having a child with down syndrome, my family will always be a part of GiGi’s. We will continue to participate, volunteer, and raise money. GiGi’s has meant a great deal to my family since the birth of Lincoln six years ago.

Matt, we hope that you feel your time was well served and please know that we are forever grateful for you and your family! Thank YOU!

Friends & Supporters, If you or anyone you know may be interested in learning more about serving on our board, please contact a board member or the Playhouse.
