Siblings play a vital role in the GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County community, standing beside their loved ones with Down syndrome for a lifetime. Few exemplify this unwavering bond better than sisters Barb and Patty. As Patty’s primary caretaker, Barb ensures that her sister stays engaged, active, and connected, bringing her to GiGiFIT Adult and Fantastic Friends every Wednesday without fail. Their commitment to these programs is a beautiful reflection of the lifelong love and dedication shared between siblings.  

But Barb’s support does not stop there. She also accompanies Patty to her square-dancing lessons, our annual gala, and awareness walks, making sure she is part of every celebration and opportunity for connection. Patty, the oldest participant at GiGi’s Playhouse OC, is living proof that with socialization, exercise, and an abundance of love and care, individuals with Down syndrome are thriving—living longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. 

Barb and Patty’s journey is a testament to the power of family and the importance of community. Their presence at the Playhouse reminds us all that inclusion, friendship, and a strong support system make a world of difference. They inspire us to continue building a space where siblings, families, and individuals with Down syndrome can grow together, celebrating every milestone along the way.
