Catherine McPhee’s Extraordinary Mission to Empower the Down Syndrome Community
Catherine McPhee Leads with Purpose and Love to Uplift the Down Syndrome Community

Catherine McPhee is a force of nature within GiGi’s Playhouse Orange County, dedicating her time, expertise, and heart to our mission long before we even opened our doors. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Catherine’s advocacy is deeply personal – her beloved granddaughter, Kelly, is the driving force behind her unwavering commitment to individuals with Down syndrome.
Professionally, Catherine has spent nearly 30 years at Azusa Pacific University as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Associate Chair of Undergraduate Professional Programs, and Director of the Online RN to BSN Program. Her vast experience in healthcare and education makes her an invaluable asset to our Playhouse, as she tirelessly connects families to vital resources and spreads awareness about our programs.
Over the past two years, Catherine has served on our Events Committee, playing a crucial role in fundraising efforts that keep our doors open and our programs thriving. As the lead volunteer for Destination Discovery, she brought creativity and exploration to participants of all ages, fostering hands-on learning experiences. She also spearheaded our free monthly Parent Education Nights, securing renowned experts in law, medicine, nutrition, and education, professionals whose knowledge is priceless to our families and whose presence at the Playhouse is a direct result of Catherine’s efforts.

Now, Catherine is taking on an even greater role as our Health and Education Outreach Lead, ensuring that more families and professionals know that GiGi’s Playhouse is here, ready to serve. She’s actively representing us at community fairs, engaging with school districts, and forging relationships with physicians, bringing GiGi’s Playhouse to the forefront as a trusted resource for new families.
Catherine’s passion is undeniable, her dedication unmatched. Everything she does is rooted in love for her granddaughter Kelly and for the entire Down syndrome community. She is not just making an impact, she is transforming lives, one connection at a time. And in her newest role, she’s only getting started!
