Parties, Dancing and Singing as written by Fatima Mirza, GiGi’s NYC Participant
GiGi’s NYC is THRILLED to be launching the first blog from Fatima’s series, Fatima’s Words of Wisdom, during Down Syndrome ACHIEVEMENT Month! Fatima is a long-time community member at GiGi’s NYC and recently joined us as our resident blogger. We are ecstatic to have her on board in this capacity, and we look forward to reading about her perspective regarding a variety of topics chosen by her. In her inaugural blog, she writes about her hobbies, the impact of GiGi’s NYC programs, and our upcoming Gala. Please enjoy Fatima’s blog and feel free to leave her a comment:
My favorite things to do are go to parties, sing, dance, and make speeches. I like to attend parties because I like to entertain people, have fun with family and friends and make new friends.
Please buy tickets or donate to GiGi’s NYC 2021 Gala. There will be singing, dancing, speeches, raffles, and great food. Please mark your calendars and come to the Gala on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 6 to 10pm. This Gala is the biggest fundraiser for GiGi’s NYC. The money helps keep the Playhouse open and provides free programming for our members.
The programs help people with Down syndrome like me have many opportunities to make friends and improve our life skills. The programs include Chorus, TeenTastic, Judo, GiGiKitchen, art classes, exercise classes, Yoga, Zumba, LitLab, communication and leadership classes. They also have parent support groups.
GiGi’s NYC is important to me because I get to see and socialize with my friends and make new friends. I learned a lot of new games and improved my cooking skills. It’s a great way to make friends by going to the Playhouse. I am so happy that it is in-person again. I am really enjoying the Fall programs.
This Gala is a great way to make new friends and dance the night away. Get your fancy clothes and dancing shoes ready. Hope to see you on October 21st!
