Meet the Associate Board: Mallory Humphries

Mallory Humphries is one of our beloved Associate Board members, assisting with our annual Fashion Show, silent auction, and much more! She is a huge advocate for the Down syndrome community, and we are thankful to have her as a part of our team. We are excited for our community to get to know Mallory even better, and want to thank her for her tireless efforts on behalf of GiGi’s NYC!

When did you first get involved with GiGi’s NYC?

I first got involved with GiGi’s NYC in the Fall of 2019, right before the Fashion Show!

Why did you decide to join the Associate Board of Directors?

During my time at the University of Georgia, I worked at an organization called Extra Special People (ESP) that served kids and adults with developmental disabilities. I was really missing working with this community and started to look into organizations similar to ESP that I could get involved with. I found GiGi’s NYC and learned about the Associate Board and thought it would be the perfect fit.

What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you?

In a world that can be scary and hurtful, GiGi’s NYC is a bright spot of love, acceptance, and kindness. Not only does GiGi’s NYC provide an avenue for participants and families to get to know and support each other, but we also host programming that encourages independence, celebrates everyone, and provides lifelong friendships.

What do you do on the Associate Board?

Since I work at a nonprofit for my full-time job, I provide insight into the event planning and fundraising aspect of the Associate Board, while also assisting with marketing, graphic design, and video work. Working with the Associate Board has been such an honor. Everyone works so hard to make sure we are properly supporting GiGi’s NYC and fundraising to continue to provide impactful programs.

What is your favorite thing about the GiGi’s NYC community?

Everyone involved in the GiGi’s NYC community has a passion and fire to be there. They are dedicated to the mission and it is demonstrated in the way they show up for the organization day in and day out, providing amazing programs and opportunities for our community.

What does Down syndrome awareness and acceptance look like to you?

Oh man, I dream of the day where every person on this earth understands, accepts, and values people with Down syndrome. I dream of a day when every person knows how to interact with a person with a disability, where they understand the value they bring, where they speak only words of kindness, joy, love, and acceptance, not hate. Every person with Down syndrome is deserving of equal rights, opportunities, and respect. They should be embraced for who they are and what they bring to their communities.

What from our community are you most proud of?

I love the mission of GiGi’s NYC. I love that it not only focuses on programs for our participants, but embraces programming and education for the whole family and community as well. Our mission is well-rounded and dedicated to bringing awareness to Down syndrome.

How do you enjoy spending your free time?

In my free time, I will most likely be seen walking around the city with my rescue pup, Waffle, and a coffee in hand. I also really enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, and my guilty pleasure shows are always ones that have to do with food and cooking.

Thank you, Mallory, for your moving and inspiring words! You do so much for the Down syndrome community every day, and we are so privileged to have you as a member of our Associate Board. Please join us in thanking Mallory for her incredible work and generosity!
