Meet our Associate Board: Ian Hanselman

Meet Ian, member of GiGi’s NYC Associate Board. He joined our team in 2022 and jumped right in to assist us with our 10th Anniversary Gala! GiGi’s NYC is immensely grateful to Ian, and we hope you enjoy learning more about him by reading below:

What does GiGi’s NYC mean to you? GiGi’s NYC champions a powerful idea – that all people have tremendous potential and should have the opportunity to nurture and express the things that make them special. Having an uncle with Down syndrome, programs like those at GiGi’s NYC allowed him to learn, to contribute and to bring smiles to so many people.

What from our community are you most proud of? I am most proud of the platform that GiGi’s NYC provides for individuals with Down syndrome, allowing them to share their stories and successes. Through the efforts of the wonderful team of volunteers, GiGi’s NYC inspires inclusivity, creating a better world for all of us, especially for those that are often overlooked.

How do you enjoy spending your free time? My parents sparked an appreciation for nature and I find the most joy when I am spending time outdoors with friends and family. I love to hike, golf, snowboard and am currently learning to surf.

What do you want the GiGi’s NYC community to know? That inclusivity is a positive feedback loop. By uplifting just one individual, we are contributing to a better society. Also, I believe that inclusivity begins with the small choices that we make on a daily basis. Seemingly insignificant interactions, like a conversation or smile, can make people feel like they belong and can inspire future positivity.
