Fun Things To Do in March 2023-Written by Fatima, GiGi’s NYC Participant

March is one of my favorite months of the year because Spring starts! We can finally start enjoying the warm weather again. There are also many holidays celebrated in March. For example, International Women’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, World Down Syndrome Day, National Crunchy Taco Day, and a few more. In addition, it’s also National Disability Awareness Month.

Wednesday, March 8th, was International Women’s Day. This is a global day celebrating the special economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It’s a great opportunity to celebrate women’s accomplishments. I think it’s a good day for men to be gentlemen by giving the women in their lives gifts and flowers, or taking them out for dinner to celebrate their special day.

This past weekend on Saturday, March 11th, was GiGi’s NYC 5th Annual Fashion Show. I was really excited about being a part of this event! We rehearsed for many weeks. I co-emceed the event and walked the runway in my fancy dress! My mom and my helper Laura were there, too! If you missed it, it will be on YouTube soon, so stay tuned.

Saint Patrick’s Day is on Friday, March 17th, and I am really looking forward to having my family and boyfriend, Peter, over to celebrate. We will be eating corned beef and cabbage. My grandmother Maureen is Irish, so we like to celebrate with her since it’s a part of her culture. How will you be celebrating?

National Crunchy Taco Day is on Tuesday, March 21st, this year-the same day as World Down Syndrome Day. Some celebrate this day by having taco parties for friends of family. A lot of people put toppings on tacos such as cheese, beef tomatoes, lettuce, refried beans, onions, rice and avocados. Yummy! How do you like to eat your tacos?

As I mentioned, World Down Syndrome Day Tuesday, March 21st. I am very excited because some participants and volunteers from GiGi’s NYC will be visiting me while I’m at work at the UBS Arena. I will be working at sections 111 and 112 with my supervisor Bridget on this day and I will be looking for you all behind my concession stand. I want everyone from GiGi’s NYC to see where I work at the UBS Arena!

Other things I’m looking forward to in March include going to see Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden, doing spring cleaning in my home, sleeping late until the afternoon, spending time with loved ones, starting my new job at Citi Field as a food service helper for the Mets, going to Bowling Buddies with GiGi’s NYC, cooking dinner everyday, and volunteering in the office with Dancing Dreams. All of you are invited to visit me at my new job working for the Mets at Citi Field. Please wish me good luck with it!

What are you looking forward to most in March? Please Let me know in the comments below.

Happy March!

Love always,

Fatima
