Shining Bright: June Spotlights
Join us in celebrating and learning more about the incredible people and programs that make GiGi’s Nashville such a special place!

This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Grace, one of our amazing participants who brings joy and enthusiasm to every program she attends! Grace is a familiar face at both Fantastic Friends and Achievers, and her bright, engaging smile can light up any room. She arrives ready to participate, connect with friends, and make the most of every activity. One of the things we love most about Grace is her willingness to try new things. She approaches each experience with curiosity and a positive attitude. Her excitement is contagious and encourages those around her to step outside their comfort zones as well. Grace truly loves being part of the GiGi’s Playhouse community. She enjoys spending time with friends, participating in activities, and celebrates everyone’s successes. Her kindness, enthusiasm, and cheerful spirit make our programs even more special.
Thank you, Grace, for bringing your positivity, adventurous spirit, and wonderful smile to Fantastic Friends and Achievers.

This month, we are excited to recognize the incredible Occupational Therapy students from Tennessee State University who volunteer with our Achievers Program as part of their fieldwork experience. These dedicated students bring energy, creativity, and compassion to every session. They work alongside our participants to create engaging activities that promote independence, communication, healthy living, and personal growth. Their knowledge and enthusiasm help make each Achievers session both meaningful and fun.
What makes this partnership especially valuable is the opportunity for learning on both sides. Our participants benefit from individualized support and encouragement, while the students gain hands-on experience working with adults with Down syndrome in a community-based setting. Together, they build relationships, confidence, and skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
Whether they are leading activities, encouraging participants to try something new, facilitating discussions, or celebrating achievements big and small, these students consistently demonstrate patience, kindness, and a genuine commitment to inclusion.
We are grateful to our OT fieldwork students for sharing their time and talents with GiGi’s Playhouse. Thank you for the positive impact you make on our Achievers participants and for helping us create a place where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive.

Eliana is joining us for the summer, and we are thrilled to have her sharing her time and talents with our learners. She brings a positive attitude, enthusiasm for helping others, and a genuine desire to make a difference.
What makes Eliana’s story especially meaningful is that her sister is a participant at GiGi’s Playhouse. We love seeing families become involved in different ways, and it is always special when siblings choose to give back through volunteering. Their involvement helps strengthen the sense of community that makes GiGi’s Playhouse such a welcoming and supportive place.
We are excited to see the connections Eliana builds with her student and the impact she will make through the Literacy Program this summer. Her willingness to serve and support our mission is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Eliana, for joining our volunteer team. We are so happy to have you as part of the GiGi’s Playhouse family and look forward to an amazing summer together!

At GiGi’s Playhouse, the Achievers Program empowers adults with Down syndrome to continue building skills, confidence, and independence while creating meaningful connections with their peers and community. Each week, participants engage in purposeful, hands-on activities focused on communication, self-awareness, healthy living, independence, and community engagement. From cooking and fitness activities to teamwork, problem-solving, and life skills development, Achievers provides opportunities for continued learning in a fun and supportive environment.
One of the best parts of Achievers is the sense of community it creates. Participants encourage one another, celebrate successes, try new experiences, and build friendships that extend beyond the Playhouse. Every session is filled with laughter, learning, and opportunities to grow.
Whether participants are practicing workplace readiness skills, exploring healthy habits, participating in community outings, or developing greater independence, Achievers helps each individual work toward personal goals while recognizing and celebrating their unique strengths.
We are incredibly proud of our Achievers participants and the determination, enthusiasm, and positivity they bring to the program each week. Thank you to our volunteers and families who help make this program possible and support our mission of changing the way the world views Down syndrome.
