Volunteer Spotlight: TSU Interns
Rachel, Caroline, Jenni, and Hanna, interns from Tennessee State University, are pursuing careers as Doctors of Occupational Therapy and have brought their passion for helping others to GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville. As dedicated volunteers, they have taken the lead in GiGi’s Kitchen Kids and Teen Tastic. Their enthusiasm and expertise create a fun and educational environment in both programs!
Each of these talented interns brings their own distinctive flair and expertise to the programs at GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville. In the innovative GiGi’s Kitchen Kids program, the interns guide young participants through a delightful journey of crafting and cooking, all inspired by the book they read during each session. This imaginative format transforms the kitchen into a playground of creativity, where kids eagerly dive into making themed snacks and crafts. The participants absolutely loved exploring new recipes and creating fun, hands-on projects that brought the stories to life!
Meanwhile, in the Teen Tastic program, the interns have crafted an array of engaging activities designed to captivate the teenage participants. Through interactive games and thoughtful discussions, they skillfully help the teens develop essential social, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving skills. The interns’ dynamic and creative approach ensures that every session is not only educational but also a blast for the teens, who leave feeling more confident and connected with their peers.
Through their work at GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville, Rachel, Caroline, Jenni, and Hanna are not only enhancing their own education but also making a meaningful impact on the lives of the participants. Their commitment to our programs fosters a sense of community and belonging, and their efforts are greatly appreciated by the participants and their families. These future Occupational Therapists are not only gaining valuable experience but also making a lasting difference in the lives of those they serve!
Participant Spotlight: Jack Murdock
Jack is a cherished adult participant at GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville, known for his sweet smile and playful nature. He is a regular attendee of several programs, including Fantastic Friends, a social group where he enjoys making connections and engaging in fun activities with his peers. Jack also participates in GiGi’s Achievers, an adult life skills course designed to help individuals develop practical skills and gain greater independence. Additionally, he finds peace and relaxation through the Yoga classes offered at the Playhouse, where he practices mindfulness and physical wellness.
A lover of learning, Jack always looks forward to his Literacy Tutoring sessions, where he immerses himself in reading. His passion for reading is evident, as he eagerly dives into stories and expands his knowledge. Jack’s joy in reading not only enriches his life but also serves as an inspiration to others in the community, showcasing the power of literacy and lifelong learning.
Jack’s playful spirit is a hallmark of his visits to the Playhouse. Upon arriving, he never fails to knock on the door with a mischievous grin, waiting to be let inside. Tutor Spotlight: Desi Correa
Desi, a literacy tutor at GiGi’s Playhouse Nashville, is a pillar of patience and kindness. Her gentle demeanor and empathetic approach make her an exceptional mentor for the participants she works with. Whether she is helping someone navigate a new book or assisting with reading comprehension, Desi’s calming presence reassures her students and creates a supportive learning environment. Her dedication to fostering a love of reading is evident in every session.
Desi goes above and beyond to tailor her tutoring sessions to meet the unique needs of the participant.
