Program Highlight – Students Supporting Students Through Speech

Students supporting students is what you see during Talk It Up a new speech program each week at GiGi’s Playhouse Milwaukee. We have been thrilled to see a new partnership with Marquette University blossom over the fall semester and we are eager for more!

New this year,  Marquette University graduate students in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, participated in the inaugural semester of “Talk It Up with Marquette!”  This program was designed to provide free individual and group-based community outreach services to children with speech, language, and other communication needs.  Students’ training to be SLP’s assessed participant’s areas of strengths and concerns. Then, based upon the child’s functional abilities and areas of deficit (and taking into consideration parent goals), the students developed goals that were then targeted in treatment sessions throughout the semester.  The program ran weekly under the direction/supervision of Marquette University Clinical Assistant Professor Jennifer Marie Eggert, MS, CCC-SLP, C/NDT.  The group participated in a Halloween/costume day and “Winter PJs, Hot Cocoa, and Cookies” event.   Parents consistently praised the services and the student and client growth was evident.  New friendships were made and we sincerely look forward to next semester!
