Volunteer Spotlight: Kathryn community outreach & board member

Kathryn has been on the board for several years and is the first board member with Down syndrome to be an outreach ambassador. As our outreach ambassador Kathryn goes to several events to talk about GiGi’s Playhouse. This past February Kathryn attended 5 events! First, we had an interview on NCTV 17 where Kathryn spoke about her history of GiGi’s Playhouse and how she is a role model to families with a child with Down syndrome. Next we went to the IPSN (Indian Prairie Special Needs) Special Needs Resource Fair on Saturday, 2/23. There we met several new families and made some great contacts with fellow organizations! On Monday, 2/25 Kathryn attended the Excelon/ComEd Abilities Expo where she introduced people to GiGi’s Playhouse and our mission to change the way the world views Down syndrome. The following day, Tuesday, 2/26 we had our presentation to the Naperville After Dark Rotary. At the presentation Kathryn demonstrated that she is not defined by her diagnosis it is just a part of who she is. She is also a daughter, girlfriend, worker and friend. Kathryn ended February on Wednesday, 2/27 at the School District 203 and 204 Resource Fair where she spoke about GiGi’s Playhouse as not only a Down syndrome achievement center, but also a wonderful place to volunteer. We are so thankful to have Kathryn and her mom, Patty as a part of our organization. They truly are an inspiration!
