E-Learning with Katie Finke

E-Learning Experiences

Best of All- Katie Finke

“Hi, my name is Katie Finke, and I am the mother of 4 (13 year old daughter, twin boys who are 9 and a 5 year old boy). One of my twin sons, Owen, has Down syndrome. We have been attending GiGi’s Playhouse since we moved here almost 6 years ago. I have also served as a Board Member for the past 4 years. We have participated in almost every program GiGi’s has to offer, but I would have to say we have utilized the free literacy and math programs the most!!

That brings me to the point of my blog story….E-learning…can I get a raise of hands of every mother or father who has hit the struggle bus at some point with e-learning? E-learning is not the easiest, and especially not the easiest for those that have a child with Down syndrome or any other type of special needs. I feel like I am back in school and we have a great school system!! I just literally can’t afford to go to the restroom while Owen is doing his e-learning or he has moved to another room!! He is finishing his 3rd grade year and we have gotten through it thanks to our awesome Support System at Spring Brook Elementary but also thanks to AWESOME tutors at GiGi’s Playhouse Fox Valley!! I especially know going into summer I will definitely take advantage of it via Go To Meeting….every little bit helps that can give our kids an extra boost. I know virtual learning can be hard for our kiddos, but Owen definitely does better with his Special Ed teacher and GiGi’s Tutor- Katie Vaughan than he ever does with me!! They are the best and I am so lucky to have access to wonderful tutors at GiGi’s Playhouse like we do. I am truly grateful!!”

We are so thankful for parents, like Katie Finke, who are so involved in GiGi’s Playhouse.  Katie participates in the Step to Accept Challenge, Naperville Half Marathon & 5k, National Conference, and the Chicagoland Gala.  Her commitment to her child and all children with Down syndrome is inspirational.  Katie also teaches tennis with Buddy Up Tennis.   Thank you, Katie for all your hard work- YOU are changing the way the world views Down syndrome!!!
