John Claes, Executive Director

I was hired at GiGi’s Playhouse Des Moines in October of 2024, after spending more than 35 years in the non-profit sector. I had no prior connection to the Down syndrome community, but I’m delighted to say that all that changed when I first walked into the Playhouse. I feel as though my entire professional life has led me to this place; I have loved every minute that I’ve spent here.

My wife Anne and I live in Johnston and have a grown daughter who lives in Des Moines with her husband and daughter. Being a grandfather has made life so much more fun, and it couldn’t be any better. When not at GiGi’s or with my family, you can probably find me enjoying live theatre around town.

Kaitlin Hohnstrater, Program Manager

I was hired as the Program Manager for GiGi's Playhouse in August of 2025. I was unfamiliar with GiGi's Playhouse, however quicky became encapsulated with helping spread the vision of changing the way the world perceives Down syndrome.
