Dash for Down Syndrome Reflection
Though days have passed by since our recent event, there are many moments from our Dash for Down Syndrome that bring us to tears in gratitude, celebration, and joy. If you were in attendance, you experienced the magic. If you could not attend the event this year, read the reflection below to feel how incredible the morning was.
Our son has a memory. A memory where superheroes are vibrant and fly by our sides keeping the world safe and balanced. Where Elsa and Anna really do live in extraordinary ice castles. And where magic crystals can exert extraordinary powers on us all. Our son has a memory. He is amidst a culture where he doesn’t look different than anyone around him. Where an entire conversation and understanding is simply sent and received with a smile. And where love is tasted abundantly in the air. Our son has a memory. Where every hand he sees is there to lift him up with support, growth and celebration. He IS the brightest light in the room and is perfect just the way he is.
I thank all the beautiful gems at GiGi’s Playhouse, Cleveland for cultivating such an experience at The Dash for Down Syndrome. It was truly a moment when magic met reality and where excellence shined in all. This memory…. What’s the Dash for Down syndrome? It’s a race, a walk, a celebration, an event, a place to give a hug, receive a hug, share a smile, explore something new, see old friends, meet new friends, exercise, compete, laugh, open your heart, comfort another…. It’s a time to experience…. Just a darn good time for individuals, families, and friends alike. Yes, it’s a celebration to honor all our beautiful friends with Down syndrome. But the cherry on top? It’s really a darn good time to celebrate connection and the way life is supposed to be…. And can be…. And is.
Many thanks to all, Cynthia Shea
