Meet Sofia! One of Our Many Dancing Queens!

“Our Dance & Yoga program provides participants with opportunities to work on their coordination and attention skills, along with supporting their confidence and promoting their social participation.

Program activities include memorizing and executing the dance moves of a choreography or of a yoga routine, taking the leadership role and showing a dance move of their own, and working as a team to achieve a goal. These are great examples of skills that participants might use in other situations outside of GiGi’s Playhouse Chicago including at school or at home.

This month’s best of all program moment was Sofia doing all six dance moves of the Old Town Road choreography! This is a great improvement since Sofia first joined the program and she would do only about two dance moves of a given choreography. We are so proud of you, Sofia! Since becoming a regular participant in the program last summer, Sofia has grown into being a very active and involved participant, engaging in the dance routine of the day, showing her leadership skills by introducing new dance moves and by supporting other participants during the program, through praising them and offering help when needed. We love having Sofia with us!” – Vanessa Peixoto Honorato, Program Leader
