GiGi’s Chicago Welcomes New Intern!

Bella Vavra is a rising junior in college, and will be interning with GiGi’s Playhouse Chicago for the 2019 Summer. Bella grew up in the small town of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Today she attends Northwestern University and is studying Communication Sciences and Disorders. Bella has grown up being inspired by her family, her church, and volunteer organizations like Royal Family Kids Camp to find creative ways to make a difference. She loves having movie nights with her friends and finding new coffee shops in Chicago. She plans to continue her education and pursue a career in Speech-Language Pathology. Bella is thrilled to be a part of the GiGi’s mission of inclusivity, acceptance, and celebration of Down syndrome!

I look forward to meeting you while I co-lead our exciting new summer program Destination Discovery!

I will also be volunteering with our continuing programs, which include LMNOP for ages newborn to 3 years, Teen Tastic for 13-17 year olds, and Speech Week* for 3 to 8 year olds. Additionally, I will be providing one-on-one math tutoring for ages three and up throughout the summer!

Come join the fun, and sign up now on GiGi’s Calendar!

*Running August 5th-9th

What do you want to do upon graduating from NU?

Upon graduating NU, I plan to pursue a masters in Speech-Language Pathology, and work as a speech therapist in a hospital, elementary school, nursing home, or non-profit like GiGi’s!

If you could time travel, where would you go?

If I could time travel I would either go to the Victorian era or Ancient Greece.

What are your three favorite movies?

The Proposal, Bridesmaids, and Mama Mia 2

What do you love most about Chicago?

I’m excited to spend more time in Chicago this summer, but one of the things I love most is the wide variety of cultures represented, and the fact that there is always something new to explore. So far some of my favorite things have been the Pilsen Tamale festival, exploring Argyle, and finding so many new coffee shops.
